Famous 5 Foundation Youth Award Programs: Grades 4-12

The Famous 5 Foundation recognizes achievement in youth leadership and citizenship. Along with the Imperial Oil Foundation and Embridge Energy, they are offering two Youth Award Programs; one for Middle School students with an opportunity to win a MacBook and the other offered to High School students where they have a chance to win $1,000. Application deadline is May 31, 2012.

Participate in Student Vote!

Student Vote is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works with educators and education stakeholders to deliver experiential learning opportunities to help young Canadians understand and practice the responsibilities of their citizenship. The program is open to all elementary, middle and high schools and there is no cost to participate. Coincinding with an official election, Student Vote organizes a parrallel election for youth under the voting age.

New online material will help teachers and students to better appreciate and understand the contributions of Alberta’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) peoples. This information, Walking Together: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Perspectives in Curriculum, was developed by education experts, elders and respected knowledge keepers from FNMI peoples within the province.

Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Essay Contest

This contest is open to all Grade 6 students in Alberta. The grand prize winners will be invited by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to an award presentation event in the Legislature Building in Edmonton and receive a plaque and a cheque in the amount of 1st place $200, 2nd place $75, and 3rd place $50. Essays must be submitted to the Office of the Speaker on or before Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Glenbow Museum's school programs enrich the learning opportunities for Alberta students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.The educational programs support students in learning about the history of their region while also broadening their horizons through international exhibitions and programs. Over 55,000 school children participate in Glenbow Museum's school programs annually.

COPS for Kids Safety

The Canadian Police Association believes in supporting today’s youth and helping ensure their safety. As a partner in public service, the CPA has designed the Cops for Kids Safety program to help teachers and parents give our children the tools to Be Smart and Be Safe in our world today. The program is offered free of charge and has been designed to fit within Grade 1 and 2 Phys Ed / Healthy Living curriculum. Participation is optional.
