Air Quality and health - what are the risks?

With the wildfires burning in northern Alberta, the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) has reached dangerous levels. The AQHI is a public health tool introduced by the province designed to measure air quality on a scale from 1 to 10+, with 10+ being considered "very high risk." The Index has corresponding health risk categories and provides advice to the general population and at-risk audiences on how to lessen risk based on those categories. The Index is updated throughout the day in more than 20 communities across Alberta. Be informed, review the AQHI Fact Sheet to learn more about the Index, how air pollution can affect health and how to protect yourself and others from exposure to air pollutants.
