Information Session on Preschool Intervention Program rescheduled

Rocky View Schools' Preschool Intervention Program (PIP) information session has been rescheduled from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, 2012, at R.J. Hawkey School from 9 - 11 am.

Advanced Registration begins Jan. 16, 2012

Register your child with Rocky View Schools! All schools will be accepting registrations beginning January 16, 2012, for the 2012/13 school year. Be sure to access RVS' Advanced Registration edition of Ontrack to find out how you can register you child, as well as learn of a complete listing of school orientation sessions, open houses, and other special events planned.

2011-2012 Expenditure of Premier Redford's New Grant Monies

On October 13, 2011 Premier Redford announced that the government would reinstore a $107 million to the Education Ministry. Rocky View School portion of the $107 million is $2,879,266. On December 1, 2011, RVS Board of Trustees approved the following new expenditures.

RVS' AERR released

Rocky View Schools has much to celebrate! As outlined by RVS' latest Annual Education Results Report (AERR), the jurisdiction has put in place the essential conditions to advance its pursuit of 21st C learning.

New attendance areas for Langdon/Sarah Thompson Schools

Families residing in the Hamlet of Langdon will want to note that new attendance boundaries have been established for the 2012/13 school year in anticipation of the opening of the Sarah Thompson School.

A Symphony of Schools

A collaborative effort involving hundreds of students and a handful of music teachers, Rocky View Schools presents, "A Symphony of Schools: Rocky View Students Perform Beethoven". It's a production that is sure to bring music to your ears!

Olli's ALL-STARS Program - Grades 7-12

The Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation, the Calgary Flames and Olli Jokinen would like to hear about acts of heroism and kindness by students that take place in your school. The program, named Olli’s All Stars, is focused on creating a positive school environment and is open for students in grades seven through twelve. Deadline for entries for the 2011/2012 Flames season is March 1st, 2012.

Scholarship Opportunity K-12 students

The John Hasselfield Endowment Foundation is a non-profit society created to provide support to young people who display a wanting desire for personal development and learning through education, sports/physical activity or visual/performing arts, who might otherwise not fulfill that desire because life has put financial obstacles in their path in ways beyond their control. Deadline for applications is October 01 and April 01.

Education Jargon

Every sector speaks its own language. Often technical, this language or jargon, can be confusing, bare of meaning or incomprehensible to people who are not familiar with the topic under discussion. To help alleviate the confusion, the Alberta School Boards Association has created a helpful glossary of terms, abbreviations, and acronyms that might be unfamiliar to parents. We have also included some terms specific to Rocky View Schools, its 2011-2014 Three Year Plan, and the education system as a whole.

Kindergarten in RVS

Rocky View Schools is once again participating in the Early Child Development Mapping Project. This project involves kindergarten teachers completing the Early Development Instrument (EDI) on every child in RVS.
