Speech & Language Services

Speech/Language sercies are provided for five distinct groups of RVS students: 

a) Children in Kindergarten who have been identified with mild/moderate or severe speech/language needs and are eligible for Program Unit Funding (PUF)

b) Students in Grade 1 who had received PUF speech/language services in Kindergarten

c) Students who are school-age with syndrome diagnoses (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Williams Syndrome, Down Syndrome, etc.)

d) Students in Grades 7-12 whose language needs continue requiring attention

e) First Nations students admitted to RVS through the INAC agreement with First Nations within or bordering RVS.

All other speech/language services are provided by Alberta Health Services through the Ministry of Health. Although Alberta Health Services Speech/Language Pathologists work in Rocky View Schools, they are employees of the health authority. Questions about their services need to be directed to the Alberta Health Services.

 

 

  

Where is it located?

Speech/Language Services are provided in the child/student's home school.

 

How do you access these services?

a) Kindergarten services are accessed by a school referral; the Speech/Language Pathologist will likely have been involed in determining eligibility for Program Unit Funding.

b) Service for students with syndromes and students in Grade 1 who had PUF provided speech services in Kindergarten receive service through a referral to the Student Health Partnership. This referral is initiated by the School Resource Team.

c) First Nations students receive speech/language services by direct referral from the school to the Speech/Language Pathologist assigned to provide that service.
