School ProfileGrade Configuration: Grades 5-8 Education Plan2011-2014 —School Education Plan Quote from a Parent Advocate“The strength of EAMS is that the school seeks to develop the whole child. The academic program is strong, but there is also a strong emphasis on citizenship through the many service projects. There is a highly developed physical education program with rotations through activities that help even a non-athletic student participate and succeed. The staff care about the students, so they work hard to make the Middle Years a meaningful experience.” EAMS School Council May 2011

How do we define success for Ecole Airdrie Middle students?A successful Middle Years experience for students includes as many opportunities for exploration of talents, strengths and skills as possible over the student’s four years in our building. We know our students are successful when they demonstrate choices that show us that they have internalized essential self-esteem, confidence, responsibility and self-direction, that will carry them forward though the High School voyage. What makes our school good and how do we know?EAMS has a long history of high quality education programs. Survey data consistently affirms that students and parents appreciate the wide array of program offerings, the creative and innovative approaches to teaching taken by staff, and the commitment to developing global citizenship. Student performance on Provincial Achievement Tests generally meets or exceeds provincial targets for the majority of students, and we are moving toward excellence in many areas. During the year, administration monitors student success and has developed a pyramid of supports for those struggling with academics which includes student organization skill development with our CDA, tutorials offered by all teaching staff, study skills options, and/or assessments through our Resource Team. EAMS works directly and purposefully at creating a healthy environment for students, including physical, social and emotional development programs. Staff and administration are highly responsive to student issues both within and outside of curriculum. |
