Quotes from Parent Advocates

“I can tell you from the heart that I shed tears of joy many times while in Banded Peak, from the school song to the many assemblies, the experience of community is overwhelming. The value of community is created through reading buddies, evidenced by children much older than my son saying 'hi' on their way to the bus, to the appreciation of others efforts and abilities in the talent show. Never have I been so in awe of kids supporting kids (instead of ridicule) when they show the courage to demonstrate a talent they are proud of and hope others feel the same. There are many moments at Banded Peak that I believe are life changing and self-esteem building. I am very proud to be associated with, and have my children attend Banded Peak School. My children are at the beginning of their scholastic journey -  imagine the things I will be proud of when they are packing lunches for kids who don't have them or being leaders for those who are unsure, the possibilities are endless at Banded Peak.” C.G.

“Banded Peak is a small community school with a lot to offer. Our family has grown together with the school, not in size, but in our capacities to share, learn and excel. It is a place of education where our children go and where we feel confident in knowing that their nurturing, development, safety and well-being are taken seriously by a staff of talented and dedicated professionals and where the standard of education is preparing our children for the years of study ahead. The friends they make at the school are our neighbours, and the friendships forged at the school pull us together as a community. Banded Peak is a school that forms the heart of our community.” C.C.

How do we define success for Banded Peak students?

Success for our students at Banded Peak can be described by two words: personal excellence. It is our mission to engage and challenge our learners with authentic, real world learning, to address the rich diversity in their learning needs, and to empower them to strive for personal excellence in every aspect of their learning. Successful students at Banded Peak are passionate about their learning, are creative problem solvers, can think critically and most importantly, can apply what they know and transfer their understanding to new and unique situations. They know how to be caring and compassionate, as members of our ‘Family of Friends’, and as citizens of the global community. They embrace the challenges of our ever-changing world, with resilience and excitement, and they view learning as a life long endeavour.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

At Banded Peak, students are at the heart of every decision we make. We have a dedicated staff that believes all students can be successful, and who work hard to meet the needs of all learners. We are a learning community that values risk taking, inquiry, and searching for answers to the big questions in our world. We are a Family of Friends; our youngest and oldest students have relationships built on caring and respecting one another. In the words of two students, “It’s about learning and growing up at Banded Peak!” We celebrate academic achievement but furthermore strive to build capacity of all members of our learning community to be positive, productive, citizens of the global community. We continue to listen to our whole community for suggestions of how to continue to grow and be better at what we do.Our parent community is actively involved and our staff continually seeks to be the best at what they do. We have embraced the characteristics of the 21st Century learner and are committed to transforming our pedagogical practices. We believe that literacy is the foundation of learning and we continue to focus on all areas of literacy at every grade level as we expand our understanding of literacy in the 21st Century. On the Provincial Achievement Tests, Banded Peak School performed better than both the jurisdiction and the province on percent of students with an overall evaluation of acceptable, as well as, excellence. Also, Provincial Achievement test data indicates that students from Banded Peak do as well as their peers from other feeder schools at Springbank Community High School. Not only do they do well academically, but they are also volunteers and active citizens, they show confidence in building positive relationships with adults and peers, and they know how to contribute to their community
