School Education Plan

2011-2014 — School Education Plan

Quotes from Parent Advocates

“Sending my child to Kathyrn is well worth any inconveniences that have arisen with choosing a school that is not in my attendance area. At Kathryn, my child is getting a great education and she is also receiving the extra care she requires from competent and caring staff members. It gives me great peace of mind, knowing that my child is spending her days in such a wonderful environment!” Carmen

“Kathyrn School has a welcoming family atmosphere that I had feared was gone from schools today. The daily efforts of the teachers and staff to ensure each student gets the best experience possible are impressive. The intention to create great citizens of our children is humbling to witness. The parent and community support is the envy of many, many schools I am sure. Kathyrn School is community that learns together and always offers a helping hand and a kind word. That kind of community creates the kind of citizen we can all be proud of.” Robin

How do we define success for Kathyrn students?

Student ownership and responsibility for learning continues to be a focus in Kathyrn School. We must continue to create a school where students strive to put forth their best effort and take pride in the quality of work that is produced. At the same time, the quality and depth of one’s character must also be developed. It is important that our students come to school to learn in an environment that respects individual differences and celebrates all accomplishments. Each and every student who attends Kathyrn School must be allowed to develop those skills that will allow him/her to become a responsible citizen of good character, capable of sound judgment. Only in an environment that encourages self-respect, empathy and resiliency can this be accomplished. It is important, then, that we also continue to develop meaningful involvement at all levels with all stakeholders.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

We feel that Kathyrn School is a dynamic learning environment. Our students and parents in Grades 4 and 7 have given very positive feedback on the Accountability Pillars survey. The RVS Satisfaction survey clearly showed that parents are generally happy with the school and the job we are doing educating their children. The students at Kathyrn are very positive and polite; they are quite happy coming to school. The programs and extras that the school is able to offer the students exceeds expectations for such a small school. The staff at Kathyrn is a dedicated and caring group of professionals. Presently, we have four staff members who actually attended and graduated from Kathyrn School. Two other staff members began their teaching careers at Kathyrn, moved on to other schools and have since returned for a second tenure at the school. Our community is very attached and involved in the school since it has been part of the community for 80 years and is always willing to help out whenever and however needed.
