Quotes from Parent Advocates

“It is apparent that a genuine acceptance and value for all people has been fostered by the staff at Langdon School through their work with students. The development of great, contributing members of society is highly valued by Langdon School; this is reflected in the actions of the students.” K . & N. W.

“All three of my kids are excelling at Langdon because they are all being given the opportunity to learn things in a way that interests them. They are being allowed to explore their own ideas. The teachers at Langdon are inspiring and allowing my kids to think of things in a completely different way than what I experienced as a student. I have seen social studies taught through art work, technology taught by allowing students to use their own ideas to come up with amazing robots. These kids really were excited to learn about these subjects and got so much more out of the teaching because it was in their hands to learn. C.G.

How do we define success for Langdon students?

Successful students will be self-directed, innovative learners who are critical thinkers and problem solvers. They will possess strong communication skills and be able to effectively collaborate with others. Successful students will be globally aware, civically engaged, and literate in a wealth of different media. Success for our students will be facilitated by the creation of a learning environment where all students have equal opportunity and access to purposeful learning. A student’s barriers to learning will have been identified, appropriate programming will have been put into place, and thoughtful coaching and mentoring will allow them to achieve personal excellence.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

At Langdon School we are innovative in our approach to teaching and learning. We work hard to challenge our students in a 21st Century Learning Environment that will prepare them for an ever changing, global reality. We incorporate the newest pedagogies, and place current technologies in the hands of both educators and students. Langdon School’s 2011 survey results for the Accountability Pillar are exceptional. We are very pleased with the high levels of parent, student and staff satisfaction that exist in all areas surveyed. We shall be striving to maintain and improve upon the favourable feedback we have received. Staff will continue to hold planning sessions to examine current instructional and assessment practices to make them even better. Langdon School will continue to dialogue with our community to improve communication. We are open and responsive to the suggestions and critiques we receive from our parents and students. We believe our school is doing well because of the feedback we have received from our stakeholders and the external research teams we have employed to help us address our needs and guide us in this time of transition.
