Quotes from Parent Advocates

“The school has a very positive environment where
kids feel respected and are encouraged to respect
themselves and others. They are encouraged to be
good citizens while expressing themselves as
individuals in a positive way. Things like the Green Team, leadership class and athletic teams ensure that they have plenty of opportunities to feel involved and impactful.” Parent of a Grade 7 Student.

“Meadowbroook Middle School has received an energy boost this year with the arrival of Principal Brenda Valerio. The teachers are an amazing group of dedicated people who are keen to use the latest technology to reach and engage all students. Add to that a principal who has strong leadership skills, who knows how to get things done, and who sees the best potential in every student, and you get a vibrant, positive learning environment. School events like the pep rally fundraiser for the new playground brought the teachers, parents and students together in a fun way to celebrate the school community. Turning the old outdated library into an enticing Learning Commons showed what is possible when you think outside the box. These are exciting times at MMS!” Parent of a Grade 5 and 7 student

How do we define success for our students?

Success for our students is defined as a sense of accomplishment and is shown by physically, academically, emotionally and socially well-rounded students who demonstrate the attributes of a 21st Century citizen. These attributes include being: a critical thinker; a problem solver; an innovator; a communicator; a collaborator; globally aware; civically engaged; a self-directed learner; information and media literate; and financially and economically literate.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

Meadowbrook Middle School provides a learning environment where students, staff and community
members alike feel a sense of belonging. We are fortunate to have a supportive staff and school
community who spend numerous hours contributing to a positive environment both within and outside of regular school hours. The staff at Meadowbrook view learning as a life long pursuit, and this attitude is adopted by their students. We use many sources of data to inform our decision making and programming such as our APORI results and Student Orientation to school surveys. We are constantly adapting and changing the pedagogy to suit the current school climate and the needs of all students according to this data. The staff at Meadowbrook work hard to make the curriculum relevant to the everyday lives of their students. In turn, students are able to apply this knowledge and can become responsible global citizens of the 21st century. Our students demonstrate leadership within the school by taking part in extra-curricular activities such as the Green Team, leadership, intramurals, band, fine arts and playing an active role on and with sports teams.
