Education Plan

2011-2014 — School Education Plan

“My children have thrived at MCMS by being able to express their learning through their own learning styles, by being involved in extracurricular activities and by having so many options available to them. They have felt supported and encouraged by a talented teaching staff. As assessment develops and focuses on the 21st Century learner and how they demonstrate their understanding, I can see how the students will grow and develop in life skills and learning behaviours that will benefit them for all their future endeavours.M.M.

“Muriel Clayton is a gem of a school; so many highly talented, exceptionally skilled teachers with a wide spectrum of teaching expertise; wonderful options and extra-curricular opportunities available to all of the kids; excellent leadership incorporating strong child-centered, research-based philosophy; and a safe and caring environment for our kids...I don't think there is a better middle school anywhere in the world!!” N.A.

How do we define success for our students?

Successful students are self-aware and self reliant, taking responsibility for their actions. They work to be as successful as possible in all aspects of school life, be it academic, artistic, athletic or social. Successful students grow as positive and contributing members of our school community with a positive voice for growth and change. Our students display a solid work ethic and pride of workmanship. Our agenda in middle years is to move our children from dependence to independence so they succeed as interdependent adults and role models for the community.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

Our students participate in a wide range of exploratory opportunities, are encouraged to stretch themselves as learners, and have opportunities for choice and input in their learning that respects who they are as a learner. Our staff considers the attributes of 21st Century learners in their planning for student learning as well as current research and developmentally appropriate best practices. A wide range of technologies to support learning are used by students and staff including desktop and laptop computers, robotic devices, manipulatives, iPads, SmartBoards, Document cameras, Digital cameras and many other resources. Productivity software is found and utilized on individual computers as well as our network and web-based support teaming and collaboration. We work hard at collaboratively reaching clear targets for learning outcomes that are in student-friendly language. Students celebrate their achievements in their work continually throughout the school year. Our parents support us through their input, their financial contributions, their volunteerism and their participation in celebrations of learning.
