2011-2014 — School Education Plan

Quotes from Parent Advocates

“The teachers who are guiding my daughter's education do so as if they were from my own family. The love they show for her is far beyond expectations. I know that my daughter is in wonderful hands each and everyday at school. We are very fortunate to be part of Nose Creek's Family.”

“We feel deeply that Nose Creek is doing an excellent job, in partnership with the Rocky View Schools, in providing our children with a quality education in a positive and healthy environment. "Enter with a Happy Heart" is truly a great motto for Nose Creek School. The children do enter with a happy heart because the teachers and staff are leading them in a way that exemplifies this. As a parent, you dream for your child to receive an education in an environment that embraces your child's individuality. The teachers encourage the children to strive to do their best but at the same time to be respectful and to show gratitude to those around them. It is such a blessing to have Nose Creek Elementary in our community, and we are most grateful for the teachers and staff who are helping to shape the future of our children and guiding them through their elementary years! How do we define success for Nose Creek students?

The best evidence of successful students is that they are happy when they are at school. We have made it a practice to nurture literacy, self-esteem, and success within our school environment. Literacy is a prime target at any successful school. Our mission is to ‘learn to read, love to read’. Our students ‘enter with a happy heart’. This must also be the goal of any successful school. Children must feel safe and important in order to succeed. How wonderful it is that the focus of schools today has turned from grading children on a bell curve, toward success for all. No one should feel like a failure in a successful school. Success must be built into all that we do. The appropriate supports must be in place and differentiated instruction must allow for all students to succeed. Failure is not an option. We at Nose Creek Elementary have a very successful school because we insist upon it.

What makes our school good and how do we know?

Our school runs on three basic principles: respect, responsibility and reason. We have created and maintained an environment that cherishes the dignity and self-worth of students, staff and parents and respects individual differences and diversity. Everyone in our community is accountable for his or her collective actions and for their own learning. We have seen that this responsibility nurtures self-direction and promotes a sense of independence. “Come, let us reason together” is a powerful motif for open, honest rapport.

Indicators of success in our school are:
  • APORI results;
  • Implementation of a Virtues Program;
  • Few instances of playground altercations;
  • A majority of students nominated and receiving a PRO Award;
  • Students receiving lamplighter awards;
  • Vast majority of parents attend parent teacher interviews and student led conferences;
  • Vast majority of parents attend dances, open house and grade workshops;
  • 98% of all students involved in Home Reading program;
  • Large support staff meeting needs of students;
  • Highly trained and committed teachers;
  • Excellent attendance by students; and
  • Happy students.
