Ward Boundary Review

RVS' Board of Trustees is currently awaiting ministerial approval of its new ward boundary proposal.

Call For Action

Rocky View Schools’ Board of Trustees reached  out to its electors in late 2016 as part of a review of electoral ward boundaries. The review is in keeping with the Board’s desire to ensure good governance and to examine the Board’s electoral representation across the jurisdiction.

As of January 2013 the total population of the region was approximately 122,220; by 2015 the population of the region had grown to 145,363. This growth has seen uneven distribution of population across the jurisdiction.

Public Meetings

Alberta School Boards Association Education Consultant Brian Callaghan was retained to lead the review. He held a series of town hall style meetings to share a variety of options and gather feedback. The public meetings were held on:

  • Cochrane & Area @ RancheView School - November 29, 7:00 to 8:30pm
  • Chestermere & Area @ Chestermere High School - November 30, 7:00 to 8:30pm
  • Springbank & Area @ Springbank Middle School - December 5, 7:00 to 8:30pm
  • Airdrie & Area @ Education Centre  - December 8, 7:00 to 8:30pm

At the meetings the public reviewed options under consideration (public meeting powerpoint) and all RVS residents had the opportunity to feedback online via Ward Boundary Review Survey. The survey was open from November 7 to December 9, 2016.

Recommendations Report & Bylaw

On January 26, 2017, Callaghan provided a recommendations report to the Board of Trustees. From the options presented, the Board selected Option I that proposes new boundaries and the addition of a trustee for the City of Airdrie:

At a special board meeting in February, the Board passed a bylaw to modify its ward boundaries. It is currently awaiting ministerial approval.
