Schools throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS) will take time on the morning of Nov. 10 during annual Remembrance Day ceremonies to reflect on the sacrifices of the Canadian Armed Forces during armed conflicts and peace time.

RVS will also mark Veterans’ Week (Nov. 5-11) and National Indigenous Veterans Day (Nov. 8). Indigenous peoples have long contributed to Canada’s defence, including serving in uniform during the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and more recent conflicts. According to Veterans Affairs Canada, it is estimated that as many as 12,000 Indigenous people served in the great conflicts of the 20th century, with at least 500 of them sadly losing their lives.

“On this 103rd Remembrance Day, our school communities have an important opportunity to honour the valuable contributions of all Canadians who serve and have served in the defence of this country, through ceremonies and other special commemorative events,” said Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach. “Remembrance Day, Veterans’ Week and National Indigenous Veterans Day are chances for all of us to take some time to remember and reflect on the contributions of our brave military.”

All schools in RVS will hold Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 10. Media are asked to connect with the school contact directly if they wish to attend a ceremony or for more information.
