School councils from across Rocky View Schools (RVS) came together with the Board of Trustees Oct. 27 to learn about the division’s advocacy efforts and how they can share their stories and support our urgent need for Space for Students. We heard a lot of great ideas and support for having parent and student voices heard.
RVS’ need for new schools in Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere is urgent. Even if the provincial government were to approve new builds this school year it would take another four years until the schools would be ready for students.
Here are some quick facts about our growth:
- Our student enrolment grew by 91 per cent from 2001 to 2021
- RVS schools will be 101 per cent utilized by 2026.
- We add 750 – 1,000 new students every September - enough to fill a new school.
- No new schools are approved for RVS.
