Nov. 25, 2020

Dear RVS Parents/Guardians with students in Kindergarten to Grade 6,

As you may be aware, the Government of Alberta announced that as of Monday, Nov. 30, the province will shift to Scenario 3 for students in Grades 7 to 12 across the province. This means all Rocky View Schools (RVS) students in Grades 7 to 12 currently taking classes in-person will begin learning at-home through temporary online learning.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 students engaging in face-to-face learning in RVS will continue in-person learning until Dec. 18, which is our scheduled last day prior to winter break. Bus transportation for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 will continue as planned. For the week of Jan. 4 to 8, 2021, Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will remain at home while temporarily engaging in online learning for that week. Details will be provided by the school and teacher prior to the start of winter break. Students are expected to return to in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021.

Students already registered in RVS’ online offerings will continue in that mode under their usual operating conditions as per the school calendar (until Dec. 18 and restarting on Jan. 4).

We continue to protect RVS students and staff and limit the spread of COVID-19 through the layered health and safety measures we have in place in all of our schools as well as our immediate response and notification protocol of any positive cases brought to our attention. All parents/guardians are encouraged to inform their school principal immediately if their child tests positive.

RVS is currently reviewing our original timeline for families to choose between in-person and online learning for the period of Feb. 1 to June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for an update in the coming week.

We want to reassure you that your child’s well-being is our primary focus, and we are committed to supporting a smooth transition with as little disruption to their learning as possible. We thank you for your cooperation as we all work together.

Sincerely,

Fiona Gilbert Greg Luterbach
Board Chair Superintendent of Schools
