Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff,

As we come to the end of September, the Board of Trustees would like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your part in Rocky View Schools’ (RVS) successful return to school. It has been a school start-up like no other, and it is because of the tremendous effort of our entire school community that we continue to learn and work in safe and caring environments, whether that be face-to-face or online at home.

RVS continues to monitor the updated guidance from government and public health and is committed to evaluating and revising the RVS protocols for in-school learning as new information becomes available. That being said, RVS will remain thoughtful in its approach to implementing any adjustments as we are mindful of the impact that continuous and rapid change can have on school operations, as well as the learning environment and well-being of students, staff, parents and communities. Visit the RVS website for the most up-to-date COVID-19 information for the 2020/21 school year.

Our Board is committed to keeping you informed and updated as we navigate through this school year together. Over the next few weeks, the Board will be considering how to best allocate the $9.3 million received as part of the Government of Canada’s Safe Return to Class Fund. These dollars have been earmarked by the federal government to help cover additional costs for COVID-related school measures.

As we move into the fall and winter months, the Daily Health Checklist will continue to be one of the most important components of our risk mitigation strategy to ensure that schools continue to be as safe as possible. RVS recently created another tool, the Student - Should I Come to School Today flowchart, to help families know when to keep their child home and when they can safely return to school. We all need to continue to work together. This may seem onerous and challenging at times, but it is through the collective effort of each of us that our school communities will remain healthy and well.

We wish you all the very best for a continued safe and healthy school year. With appreciation,

Fiona Gilbert
Board Chair
