Parent Letter - Winter Break Extended until Jan. 10

The Government of Alberta has announced winter break is extended until Jan. 10, 2022.

Dear RVS Parents/Guardians,

As you may be aware, the Government of Alberta announced late on Dec. 30, 2021, that it will extend the winter break for all schools and grades across the province until Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. This means Rocky View Schools (RVS) students will NOT return to in-person classes on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, and instead will resume schooling on Monday, Jan. 10.

At the same time, the government announced that diploma exams for the January session have been canceled. A decision about April and June diploma exams will be made at a later date by the government.

RVS staff will be working the week of Jan. 3 preparing for potential in-person and at-home learning scenarios, as we have done previously during the pandemic.

RVS has no further details at this time about what learning will look like when it returns on Jan. 10, 2022. The Minister of Education announced that late next week more details will be provided on whether students will learn in class or at home beginning Jan. 10, 2022. You can expect to hear from RVS shortly after we receive further direction from the government.

We understand you may have questions about any changes to current health protocols in schools. We rely on the direction and guidance of Alberta’s government and Chief Medical Officer of Health to make decisions about health-related practices. We will look to these officials for any new recommendations and/or requirements that may be necessary in our schools. Please see our Return to School Operational Plan as well as our general COVID-19 information page on our website for further detail and future updates.

We want to reassure you that your child’s well-being continues to be a focus for RVS. We also recognize that this announcement will cause stress as many families scramble to arrange for childcare for next week. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we all work together to keep our students safe.

Sincerely,

Fiona Gilbert            Greg Luterbach
