COVID-19 Information for 2020/21 School Year

We re in this Together 2

We're in this together; putting student and staff safety first.

Under the guidance provided by the Government of Alberta for Kindergarten to Gr. 12, students re-entered school under Scenario 1: In-School Learning with classes resuming at near-normal operations with increased health-measures. On Nov. 30, 2020, the government moved Gr. 7 to 12 students on temporary at-home online learning. RVS has activated our Scenario 3: At-Home Learning for these grades as a result.

RVS has published our plans for Scenario 1 on our website, as well as plans for Scenario 2: Blended Learning and Scenario 3: At-Home Learning. We will continue to revise these plans and provide additional information and updates as the situation evolves. Check back often.

Deciding on In-School/RVS Online Learning

We are embarking on another pivotal time in schools and a decision point for all RVS families. All parents/guardians can decide if they will keep their child’s current learning method or make a change. This change would be effective the first week of February 2021 and students will be committed to that mode of schooling for the remainder of the school year.

Kindergarten
Families of children who are of eligible Kindergarten age this school year and did not send them to school in the fall, may choose to do so at any time before the end of the school year. Please contact your school’s office for more information. Note, students that do not attend Kindergarten in 2020/21 and are six years of age or older on Sept. 1, 2021, must start Grade 1 next fall as required by Alberta Education.

Grades 1 to 8/9*
Families of Grades 1 to 8/9* students will now have from Jan. 11 to 15, 2021, to decide if their student will attend school in-person or online.

Grades 9*/10 to 12
Due to the complexities of high school timetables and the higher number of course offerings, RVS requires more planning time for these grades. Families of students in Grades 9*/10 to 12 will have from Dec. 8 to 14, 2020, to decide if their student will attend school in-person or online.

*Grade 9s at Chestermere Lake Middle, Indus, Langdon, W.G. Murdoch, Prince of Peace and Beiseker will make their selection between Jan. 11 and 15 given how their timetable is arranged; Gr. 9s in Gr. 9 to 12 high schools will need to make their selection between Dec. 8 and 14 given how their timetable is arranged.

Selection(s) will be made by parents/guardians through our SchoolEngage system (accessed through PowerSchool). The system will not open to allow selections until the applicable time periods mentioned above. Please see an instructional video on how to make your selection through SchoolEngage.

RVS recognizes this is a difficult decision for some families and wants to provide as much information as possible to help. Click here for more detail on our RVS Online Learning offering.
