Please note, The Farm will close at the end of the 2022/23 school year. No new registrations are being accepted.
The Farm offers students the opportunity to take their full Grade 9 and 10 curriculum, including core subjects, without ever having to set foot in a traditional classroom.
Located on a 15-acre parcel of land just three minutes north of Airdrie, The Farm provides students the chance to explore a wide spectrum of agricultural practices while fostering the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.
In addition to completing farm chores and engaging in environmental research projects, students operate small businesses in small livestock; vegetable and herb production; and cereal grains, pulses and oilseeds. Within these three areas, students learn how to operate, manage and market their product and their operation, as well as consider how their business fits within a larger picture of environmental impact and economic and social sustainability. Students also learn about agricultural practices as they apply to backyard, urban environments, all the way up to large-scale farming operations. Field trips include feedlots, local ranches and farms, processing facilities and agricultural education institutions such as Olds College and the University of Alberta.
