Bus Services

Student bus services are provided to resident students Kindergarten-Grade 7 students who reside further than 1.5 km and to Grades 8 -12 students who reside further than 2 km from their designated school site.

Bus Services

School bus services are provided to students who reside within the divisional boundaries of Rocky View Schools and are enrolled in their designated school. Within those enrolled in their designated school, students in grades K-7 are eligible if they reside further than 1.5 km away, those in grades 8-12 are eligible if they reside further than 2 km from their designated school. Applications received before Aug. 15 are guaranteed to be processed and approved for the start of the school term. Late or mid-term registrations will be processed weekly, which may cause a delay in service. Parents/Guardians are responsible for student transportation to school until the application has been approved.

Students are required to scan their electronic bus pass when entering and exiting the bus. This must be done in the morning and afternoon. To register for school bus service, please click here.

Kindergarten Services

For Schools that offer half-day Kindergarten classes, transportation is provided only one way as there is no noon hour busing.

Urban Bus Services

Students who reside within the limits of the City of Airdrie, City of Chestermere, Town of Cochrane or Hamlet of Langdon are eligible for urban bus service.

Urban bus stops are centrally located within the service boundary of the respective school, for the benefit of all eligible students within a community. The maximum walk distance to a bus stop is 400 m for students in Kindergarten-Grade 6 and 1.2 km for students in Grades 7-12.

Parents who have completed their re-enrolment or registration form for their children will receive an email mid-August with details regarding the Bus Route number and payment information.

Urban Bus Route Schedules – Stop locations and stop times are available to view after Aug. 15 for routes within the City of Airdrie, Town of Cochrane and City of Chestermere.

Rural Bus Services

Students who reside outside the limits of the City of Airdrie, City of Chestermere, Town of Cochrane or Hamlet of Langdon are eligible for rural bus service.

Rural bus stops are located within the service boundary of the respective school, at 800 m intervals where safe to do so. Students who reside within a rural cul-de-sac under 800 m will be provided a stop at the mouth of the cul-de-sac.

Parents who have completed their re-enrolment or registration form for their children will receive an email mid-August with details regarding the Bus Route number and payment information.

Rural students (those who do not reside in the City of Airdrie, Town of Cochrane or City of Chestermere) will receive a call from their bus driver one to two days prior to the start of school. The driver will provide rural students with their route information including pick up time and stop location.

Please note that it can take up to five business days to process a rural application. Students who register after Aug. 15 may not have service for the start of school. Service will begin once you have heard from your bus driver.

First Ride Program

Unfortunately we are unable to host this program in person this year due to renovations at the RVS Education Centre. We hope to come back next year with a new and exciting program.

Secondary Transportation Stops

Families who require service from a second location in addition to their primary service may apply for second stop by completing a Transportation Secondary Stop Request form in their SchoolEngage portal. The secondary address must be located within the service boundary of the respective school. Service will only be provided if there is space on an existing bus route.

Specialized Services

Specialized transportation services must be directed by the Learning Department. Parents with students who require specialized services must please contact their school or the Learning Department directly at 403-945-4022.

Out of Attendance Area Service

Resident students who have been approved to attend a school other than the one designated by the Board of Trustees may access an existing community bus stop for their school of attendance, provided there is space on the existing bus route.

For the 2021/22 school year, Bert Church High School students residing in the communities of Reunion, Williamstown and Silver Creek will not be eligible for Out of Attendance Area service.

Out of Division Service

Non-resident students who reside outside the divisional boundaries of RVS and who have been admitted to an RVS school may apply for school bus service. This service must be approved annually by the Director of Transportation. Students must access an existing community bus stop for their school of attendance, provided there is space on the existing bus route.
