Now Playing: Outside the Pack

Watch the latest RockyDocs for a behind-the-scenes look at how Windsong Height students became published authors thanks to an inquiry project about wolves!

Thinking ‘Outside the Pack’

It all began with a trip to the zoo, where Gr. 6 students observed wolves as they roamed in their enclosure. Working collaboratively and guided by Windsong Heights teacher Nick Stabler, the students then dove into the story creation process, choosing a plot, creating characters, storyboarding, researching and seeking/providing feedback. When it came time to make the tough decisions, students would call for a vote and work together to maintain their project’s vision. Not only did they write the story, they also contributed to the layout and cover design.

Outside the Pack documents students' five-month long inquiry process, which concluded with a June 2019 book launch! The book is available for purchase online and for borrow from Windsong Heights' library. Teachers wanting to learn more about the writing/publishing process can contact Literacy Specialist Julie Vaillancourt.
