Ward 1 - Shali Baziuk

First elected in 2017, Ward 1 Trustee Shali Baziuk is in her second term. Shali holds a bachelor of arts in political science/law, a public relations diploma and a Six Sigma green belt. She has 20 years of regional operations management experience and 10 years experience as a corporate trainer. Prior to being elected as a trustee, she spent several years as chair of the school council for Rainbow Creek Elementary School. She is an active volunteer at Chestermere schools and the Chestermere Food Bank. As an RVS trustee, she has also served as director for the Alberta School Boards Association’s Zone 5 since 2019. Shali, her family and their several pets have lived in Chestermere for 11 years. She is an active community member, avid participant in sports and community events, and has two children at RVS schools. Her husband and son are both involved with local basketball teams and her daughter is a dancer.

Ward 2 - Shelley Kinley

First elected in 2021, Ward 2 Trustee Shelley Kinley is currently in her first term. Shelley holds a bachelor of education degree from the University of Calgary. Prior to becoming a trustee, she had a long history in education, working as a teacher, tutor, school council member, classroom volunteer, badminton coach and Rocky View Adult Education Early Literacy Co-ordinator. As a volunteer, she has dedicated her time to numerous schools in the Chestermere area and has served in roles with the Bow North Recreation Board, Bow Valley Beef and Multi Club, Chestermere High School Scholarship Committee and Calgary Construction Association expo, among others. Shelley lives in Rocky View County, which she believes from first-hand experience is a great place to raise a family. She enjoys golfing, reading, gardening, pickleball, travel and hiking, and has been involved in many sports with her children.

Ward 3 - Melyssa Bowen

Melyssa Bowen was first elected as Ward 3 Trustee in 2017 and is serving her second term. A stay-at-home parent with a history working in Early Childhood Education, Melyssa previously served as chair of the A.E. Bowers Elementary School Council. She is an active volunteer at her children’s schools, stepping forward whenever there are opportunities to be filled. Melyssa’s three boys currently attend RVS schools, and she spends as much time with them as she can. Her family enjoys going for walks around Nose Creek Park in Airdrie, playing board games and creating and crafting together.

Ward 3 - Todd Brand

Ward 3 Trustee Todd Brand is currently serving his third term after first being elected to the Board of Trustees in 2013. Todd holds a bachelor of education and a master of arts in leadership and management. A former elementary school teacher, he has many years’ experience in organizational development and is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian. As a volunteer, Todd has served on the Board of Directors and coached nearly 30 teams for the Airdrie & District Soccer Association. He is also the sponsorship co-ordinator for the Airdrie Festival of Lights and was previously a member of the City of Airdrie’s Community Services Advisory Board. Todd, his wife Coral and children Nathan and Alyssa have lived in Airdrie for more than 15 years. He enjoys playing soccer and traveling.

Ward 3 - Fred Burley

Ward 3 Trustee Fred Burley was first elected in 2021 and is currently serving his first term with RVS. Fred holds a diploma in computer sciences from the University of Alberta. Prior to becoming a trustee, he served five terms as a councillor with the City of Airdrie, where he gained experience dealing with the Alberta government and other municipalities. He has volunteered with several groups and non-profit organizations including the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club, Airdrie Pride Society and A.E. Bowers school council. He is currently chair of Airdrie Housing Ltd. Fred enjoys spending time with his spouse and family, who have proudly called Airdrie home since 1994.

Ward 4 - Norma Lang

First elected in 2010, Ward 4 Trustee Norma Lang is serving her fourth term on the Board of Trustees. Norma holds a bachelor of commerce from the University of Calgary. Previously, she served two terms as a councillor for the Town of Crossfield. She has extensive experience in local government, working as a business analyst at the City of Calgary and economic development and communications manager at the Town of Crossfield. She is a director of the Crossfield and District Chamber of Commerce and volunteers with the local 4-H Club in Crossfield. Norma helps her husband with the family business, CP Wood Gallery in Crossfield and has two children who recently completed their journeys with RVS and moved on to university.

Ward 5 (Vice-Chair) - Judi Hunter

Judi Hunter first joined the Board as Ward 5 Trustee in 2017 and is currently serving her second term. Judi holds a bachelor of education, a master of education, a telecommunication certificate and a business administration certificate. Prior to serving as trustee, she worked as a teacher, principal and central office administrator. Her accomplishments include a National Marshall McLuhan Distinguished Teacher award in 1991 and a City of Calgary Education Award of Merit in 1995. As an educator, Judi has worn several volunteer hats. Currently, she is the award co-ordinator for the Springbank Duke of Edinburgh program.

Ward 6 (Board Chair) - Fiona Gilbert

Ward 6 Trustee Fiona Gilbert was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 2013 and is currently serving her third term as trustee. She is currently Chair of the Board. Fiona holds a bachelor of applied arts in early childhood education and a bachelor of education. She has worked at and managed the Cochrane Movie House since 2009, and has volunteered with the Cochrane Community Awards Committee, Cochrane Parks and Recreation Committee and at schools in Cochrane. Originally from Ontario, Fiona moved to Alberta in 1997 and has called Cochrane home since 2007. She is a parent to two teenage boys who have been RVS students since Kindergarten, and loves movies, coffee and chocolate as well as spending time with family and friends.
