Thanks to years of strong advocacy – including important support from our communities – RVS received government approval for seven new schools in Budget 2024 and Budget 2025.
With our student population growing quickly in communities like Airdrie, Chestermere and Cochrane, we know how important it is to have enough space for students to learn, grow and thrive.
It usually takes about three years from construction approval to opening day. As we move forward with design and planning, there will be chances for families to get involved – whether it is giving feedback during school boundary consultations or helping choose school names.
We will keep you updated along the way and let you know how you can continue to be part of the process. Together, we are building great places for our students to learn.
South Windsong, Airdrie: Kindergarten – Grade 9

The design of the new Kindergarten to Grade 9 school in South Windsong is complete, and construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2025. The construction contract has been awarded to EllisDon. It is being built as a P3 project, a collaboration between the public and private sector. The school will have capacity for 905 students when it opens, which is expected to be in 2027.
The new South Windsong school site is located on the southwest edge of Airdrie, west of the Windsong community and north of Hillcrest Avenue.
Supporting Students in Growing Neighbourhoods
Two schools in growing communities were approved for planning in Budget 2025:
- K – 9 school in Lanark, Airdrie
- High school in Chelsea, Chestermere
RVS is optimistic construction of these much-needed schools will be approved in Budget 2026.
