International Antibiotic Awareness Week

Did you know…90 per cent of cold and flu symptoms are due to a virus, not bacteria? These illnesses can last more than two weeks and taking antibiotics will have no effect on their duration.

Think Twice. Seek Advice.

RVS urges everyone to educate themselves on the appropriate use of antibiotics. International Antibiotic Awareness Week, which runs from Nov. 18-22, 2019, aims to highlight the increase in antibiotic resistance due to overuse, resulting in strains that are difficult, if not impossible, to treat.

If you are concerned that your or a member of your family's cold/flu is more than a virus talk to your healthcare provider and ask ‘will an antibiotic help’? They can help determine if your sickness requires time or another approach to its treatment.

For further information on antibiotic use, visit the Antibiotic Awareness website or visit your healthcare provider.
