Groundbreaking Today for New Kindergarten – Grade 9 School in South Windsong, Airdrie
Posted onRocky View Schools (RVS) broke ground today on a new school, joined by Minister of Education and Childcare, Demetrios Nicolaides, area MLAs Pete Guthrie and Angela Pitt, and representatives from the RVS Board of Trustees, Airdrie City council, Alberta Infrastructure and construction partners.
“This new school will provide 905 much-needed student spaces when it opens in 2027,” said Board Chair, Fiona Gilbert. “Every student deserves space to learn and succeed, while developing a strong foundation and preparing for the path ahead. This project is an important step in supporting growth across Airdrie schools and strengthening the future for RVS students, staff, families and community.”
The school is one of seven new school projects approved for RVS, including three K – 9 schools and one high school for Airdrie. The last school to open in Airdrie was Northcott Prairie School in 2020, and since then the city’s population has grown by 21 per cent and enrolment has grown by 2,500 students.
“This new school will help reduce class sizes and ease the pressure that many families in Airdrie have been feeling,” said Nicolaides. “Our government listens to the needs of Airdrie and more importantly, takes decisive action."
"Today’s groundbreaking is an exciting milestone for Airdrie, one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada,” said Guthrie. “Thanks to the dedicated efforts and advocacy of parents, educators and the community, the new South Windsong K – 9 school will soon offer a welcoming space where students can excel, teachers can thrive and families are well served."
The Board will continue to advocate for a steady stream of new school approvals, modular classrooms and expediating construction of those schools already approved which are all critical to ensuring RVS’ students have the space they need to learn and succeed.
