Statement on the Kamloops Indian Residential School Burial Site

Rocky View Schools stands with all Canadians in mourning the deaths of 215 children at Kamloops Indian Residential School, and in particular the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc community.

Our flags have been lowered to half-mast as of May 31 and we encourage our staff and students to wear orange this week in acknowledgement and solidarity of this tragedy. As a school division we continue our commitment to educating our students on the long-term and devastating impacts of residential schools and continue our commitment to the calls to action in education from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

The intergenerational impact and trauma of residential schools cannot and will not be forgotten. We grieve together.

Sincerely,
Rocky View Schools
