March 12, 2020, COVID-19/School Field Trips Update

Rocky View Schools continues to make the health and safety of all stakeholders a top priority and as such, it has made decisions involving field trips and implemented protocols to focus on containment of COVID-19 and keeping its communities safe.

Community Safety Remains a Top Priority

In light of the current situation involving the COVID-19 pandemic, the jurisdiction has taken steps and made decisions based on updates from Alberta Health Services, the Alberta government, the Canadian government, and the World Health Organization. A parent letter was sent out today providing further details. Key highlights of the March 12, 2020, COVID-19 parent letter include:

  • Cancelling all 2019/20 overnight field trips outside of Alberta, effective immediately;
  • Continuing to track the reasons for student absences;
  • Calling parents to pick up their child when he/she exhibits flu-like symptom;
  • Continuing to encourage diligent and consistent self-care practices;
  • Increasing cleaning of high-touch surfaces in schools and on school buses; and
  • Requesting all students to bring personal water bottles as fountains will not be accessible for use.

As always, it's vital that everyone does their part to help contain the spread of COVID-19. The jurisdiction thanks everyone for their continue support.

As developments unfold both globally and locally regarding COVID-19, RVS will provide ongoing updates directly to members of its school communities.
