It's Volunteer Week - Celebrate From Home!

National Volunteer Week runs from April 19 - 25, 2020. Albertans are encouraged to say "thank you" to all volunteers, while still practicing physical distancing.

Applauding Alberta's Volunteers

Each year, volunteers are celebrated for their outstanding contributions in the community and across the country. Due to the pandemic, volunteer celebrations have been put on hold. However, that doesn't mean volunteers can't still be recognized during Volunteer Week, April 19 - 25, 2020! Get creative and help celebrate and salute all Albertans who have given their time and heart to help in and around their communities, especially during the pandemic.

Here are some ways to celebrate while practicing physical distancing:

  • Highlight individuals, teams or projects by sharing volunteer stories through video and photos on social media or other platforms;
  • E-mail a personalized thank you or send out a gift card for takeout or groceries as a token of recognition;
  • Write a reference letter for a volunteer who is applying for a job, internship or school program; and
  • Nominate an outstanding volunteer for an award such as Stars of Alberta to formally recognize their efforts.

Volunteers are the foundation for many community organizations - Alberta alone has more than 1.6 million volunteers who provide more than 262 million volunteer hours to support the non-profit and voluntary sector. Thank you!
