W.G. Murdoch Students Raise $20 K for Cancer Research

Ten students were recognized by the Board of Trustees for their involvement in organizing Crossfield's first-ever Relay for Life fundraiser in support of cancer research.

Demonstrating Leadership and Community Volunteerism

With guidance from their leadership teacher Shannon Booth and support from the Crossfield community, 10 students from W.G. Murdoch raised nearly $20,000 for ground-breaking cancer research, surpassing their initial fundraising goal by $8,000! The group organized the town's first-ever Relay for Life event, May 3, 2019, bringing the school together while teaching students about the importance of mentorship, volunteerism and leadership fundamentals. For their efforts, organizing students were awarded the Crossfield Youth Citizenship of the Year!

For the last 20 years, Relay for Life has raised millions of dollars for cancer research. Last year, just over 107,000 people from across Canada participated in Relay for Life, bringing in a combined total of $23.5 million!
